Professionals:

  • “You guys do good work! I have had many clients who have had good success through your multisensory teaching methods.”
  • “They bring a physical approach using various techniques.”
  • “Teaches children through their brain from many different avenues.”
  • “The center was able to teach reading by movement.”

Parents:

  • Amy Peterson is the proud and enthusiastic parent of a former Reading Revolution/Active Reading Center (ARC) student, who struggled to read in elementary school. Her daughter is now 24 years old and a voracious reader. Through various activities taught at ARC, she, along with her daughter, learned simple strategies and tools that helped her support her child in school and at home. Amy now teaches the Reading Revolution methodology to other students.
  • “Fantastic teaching staff; very organized and they really stay on top of my son’s program.”
  • “ARC did an outstanding job, my son benefited enormously from the program. They are Angel Workers.”
  • “My son was struggling with reading. He lacked confidence and was very unhappy. After completing the ARC program, he became an honor roll student and is very happy. We are so proud of him. It would not have been possible without this wonderful program. It was the best money we ever spent.”
  • “My daughter began a summer session at ARC with Tracy. In her school fluency testing, she scored at 53 words per minute in third grade. Now, in fourth grade, she reads at 88 words per minute!”
  • “My son picked up the Lightning Thief and began reading with gusto. He even borrowed his dad’s book light and read two more chapters under the bed covers! Even more shocking was his proclamation that he just loves reading! We are thrilled with what the Active Reading program has done for him – all in six months and without the Drill and Kill method. Thank you!”
  • “A program that helps children learn the basic core of the English language in a way that they can remember and understand.”
  • “My son now reads to his very pleased sister!”
  • “My daughter read the word exaggerated last week. My mouth dropped open! She has turned a corner where she realizes all she is learning at ARC can actually help her have success in deciphering words, so she is willing to try and is having more success. It’s pretty remarkable.”
  • “My son has been with the ARC program for nine months, and we’re very happy with his progress. He just read 20 hours for his school Read-A-Thon and won a big prize!”
  • “The tutors are exceptional and very caring. Our tutor was just an angel and helped our son with his self-confidence and self-esteem.”
  • “Great teaching staff, good teaching methods and philosophy.”
  • “Joan was phenomenal. She made a world of difference to our kids and they loved going to her.”
  • “Great staff, good instruction methods. Flexible with timing and scheduling. Reasonably affordable. Wish you guys would open an office in Oakland.”
  • “My son has fun his tutor and how she teaches him. He understands how she teaches his brain. He reads to me and comes across a word he does not know and he takes a moment or so and usually can figure out the word. This is astonishing to me. It has really clicked for him. He feels more confident about reading too.”
  • “The center was run by people that know what they are doing and they were able to address my son’s needs. Who knows if my son would ever been able to read if it wasn’t for ARC.”
  • “The current method of training in movement is exceptional; they are following the science.”
  • “They have a roadmap and direct approach. They fill the gaps left by traditional reading programs. Everyone could use this reading system.”
  •  “I was happy after the evaluation that they were quickly able to identify why my daughter was not able to read. All my three kids had different issues and they were able to meet all of their diverse needs.”
  • “My child needed a skilled teacher and ARC was able to provide the level of expertise needed. Big strength is teacher’s ability to connect with kids with ADD and learning challenges.”
  • “I was a desperate parent–they taught my son to read and spell. The strategies they use are exceptional and very effective.”

Students:

  • “I shocked my mom when I read a book without being forced to.”
  • “I was in ARC 3 years ago. I am now in the 5th grade and my lowest grade is a B+. Reading is my favorite subject thanks to ARC. When I was here it was more like playing and fun to me. ARC has probably changed my life. Reading is great and the ARC teacher gets the treat of showing kids that. Both my brothers are doing the program now (age 7 & 5). I hope they have as good of a time I had. The same goes for future ARC students who will hopefully be devouring books just like me in no time!”
  • “What is the point of school if it does not teach you how to read? I often wondered as a first grader. My classmates already seemed to be able to read chapter books while I still stumbled over my alphabet. My second grade teacher wanted me to stay back and my third grade teacher told my mother that I would never be able to attend college. In fifth grade my Mom enrolled me in the ARC, and my path finally took a turn for the better. With the right kind of help I began to speedily catch up with my classmates, and at the end of the fifth grade I was at the reading level of a first month fifth grader.I no longer feel pain in attending school, but pleasure in its place. I am able to learn and achieve my goals with determination. I maintained a 4.0 GPA in high school and now I am at UC Berkeley and doing well!”
